Some people see that university education is essential for successful life, while other doesn’t find it true. Discuss both the views and give your opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
You should write at least 250 words.
The word success is a very subjective term. People have different definitions and perceptions about a successful and fulfilled life. Many people believe that university education is highly essential for a prosperous life while other don’t find it true. In this paper, I'm going to discuss both views and give my own thought on it.
Undoubtedly, it is more beneficial for students to finish their studies firstly because academic qualifications are required in many professions. For example, it is impossible to become a doctor, teacher or lawyer without having relevant degrees. As a result, university graduates have access to more and better job opportunities, and they tend to earn higher salaries than those with fewer qualifications. Secondly, nowadays the job market is becoming increasingly competitive and sometimes there are hundreds of applicants for one position in a company. Hence, young people who do not have qualifications from a recommended university or college will not be as competent as others.
However, there are other people who achieve a lot without going to college. In today's society, many youngsters want to start earning money as soon as possible. In this way, they become more independent and able to afford their own expenses or start a family. They may have a chance to progress more quickly from their practical skills and real experience of work.
Summing it up, I am in favour of university education because only a few people have got real talent to achieve name and fame in a short span of time. However, shortcuts do not work for everyone.
Nowadays, in order to survive in this competitive society, many people think that university education is one of the major elements leading them to a better life. However, in some people's eyes, tertiary education is not important at all. There is no doubt that this is a debatable issue, of course, both have brought positive and negative impacts to individuals.
Some people strongly believe that tertiary education secures their future as the chance for them to be offered a job is higher. This is probably true as academic qualification is one of the major criteria taken into account in a job interview. Clearly in this sense, more people would pursue further education after high school in order to acquire more knowledge and skills which are essential for their future. Professionals such as doctors, lawyers and accountants are required to go through few years of teaching and training before working. There is no doubt that such professions would have a secure job and a successful life, yet they work unfriendly hours where they hardly see their friends and families. Nevertheless, success and trumps do come at the expense of time and youth.
On the other hand, some people claim that people don't have to spend time in universities because certain occupations don't require academic qualification, especially those which require skills. In fact, they think that those jobs are more enjoyable on top of a decent pay. A very good example, Steve Job, who dropped out from university had a successful life by intervening technological products such as computers, telephones and tablets which have brought a lot of convenience and joy to the society. This has shown that university is not necessary in order to obtain a successful life as long as we work hard.
To sum up, it is probably true to say that successful life is a very subjective term. Some people think that is means money and luxury, but some people might want to have more time for themselves and family despite of a decent pay. Therefore, it is totally up to individuals what they want to pursue in life, a better academic qualification with a secure job or a job which emphasizes more on skills rather than academic qualifications.
