How long have you been living there?I grew up in Bandung, but after I graduated from high school I moved to Jakarta, so I lived in Bandung for about 17 years.
Do you like it there?Yes, I love the city. There are a lot of fascinating things out there. It offers a safe and fascinating staying and there are always good friends and niebours there to make the living even better.
Why do you like that area?Well, what I like about the city is that it has a lot of beautiful sceneries and many shopping malls. The neighbours are friendly and helpful and I have many good friends there. The city is not crowded and there are plenty of places to hang around. I like the lively people and their simple and sober
Do you like history?Yes, I do like History a lot. I read a lot of history books. I have a fascination of learning important events that took place throughout the history and learning about those events fascinates me.
How often do you watch historical movies or documentaries?I read the book during the weekend, and occasionally I watch war movies in the Cinema. Besides, some of the programmes of History Channel are quite captivating and I watch them regularly on TV. I often browse YouTube on my smart TV and watch the history based documentaries to learn more about History.
Can you name a historical personality that you would like to learn about?Well, I would like to study further about one of the greatest leader in the world, which is the Great Alexander.
Why would you like to learn about him/her?The reason why I like Alexander is that he was a visionary man, and he was a good leader. He inspired his soldiers before they went to war, therefore I really admired the Great Alexander. With his greatest leadership quality he had been one of the most prominent personalities of the world history and I want to learn everything of his life.

How do you think managers should behave with their employees?
I do believe that Managers should behave and interact with their staffs professionally and in a friendly manner. Relationship between superiors and their teams should not only be in the work function in my opinion, but should also be in the social life as well. Good relation between Managers and their teams outside of the work will create a solid team work environment, and eventually it will impact on the productivity of the company. If a manger only boss around his team members, eventually the staffs would start disliking him or her. This would not be a good example to set in a work environment. From my experience I can say that a manager should be a leader who would be ready to take any challenge and would help his/her subordinates.
Does people’s behavior change in a group with elderly people?
Yes, I think it is common that people’s behavior will change in accordance with the group they are gathered with. When a young person gather in a group of mature people, he will adjust to the topic of the conversation, which might be about business, raising family or politic, because if he talks about K Pop, cloud computing or MTV, some of the elder people might not understand it.
Please give an example of such behavior change.
For example, when we go to the retirement house and visit elder people there, we would adjust our behavior. As most of the senior people love talking about their children or grandchildren, then we have to talk with them about family matters. And then we have to slowdown the pace of our conversation, because some of them might have problem with their hearing capability. They should be given priority in the conversation and we should let them talk on their favourite topics. When should also help them in every way possible and should not bring up issues that might bore or distress them.
Does people’s behavior change around someone famous?
I think people’s behavior will change when they meet some famous person. They will try to make an interesting conversation with the famous person talking about his business or his capability or how much s/he adores him/her; therefore he/she will enjoy the discussion. For example, if I have the chance to meet Donald Trump, I would like to talk to him about Property, and get his opinion about property business, though I do not like the business itself, but since this is a rare opportunity, I would adjust myself to talk about his business.
What factors or people can affect someone’s personality?
There are many things that could affect someone’s personality. Firstly, it is about friends. When we gather or hang out with good and positive friends, we could become a nice person, but when we play with drug dealers and crime people, then we could become one of them. And then economic conditions could affect our personality as well. When people grow up in poverty condition, they usually become a tough and temperament persons, because they have compete with other people in order to survive

Q.Do you work or study?As a matter of fact, I am in dual role right now….I am a working executive as well as a student and pursuing Masters in Law at present.
Q.Do you like writing emails?Of course yes, it is one of the mediums which serve as a documentary proof for future references. I write emails every day for professional and personal reasons.
Q.What type of emails do you receive at work?At work most of my emails relate to my job. I get inquiry emails from clients. I get emails from my superiors and also from my co-workers. These emails are mostly related to tasks I am assigned to or regarding new tasks. Sometimes I get personal emails from colleagues related to helps and supervision they need. A greeting and invitation email is also common in our office. For instance, when an employee has his son’s birthday approaching, he invites us all via email.
Q.Is it better to communicate via email or a phone call?As I did mention, email always is a better way of communication as it serves the purpose of a documentary proof as a person can always turn back from his words which were spoken by verbally. With email there are always a reminder and proof of every task. However, which one is better depends on the situation. Let’s say when I need to inform a clients or friend about an event, calling them is an easy approach. However, if I need to inform so many people, email is the better solution. Email is also handy for delivering a lot of information at a time. If I have to inform my co-workers about a meeting agenda, I would always prefer email. When I need to say a hello to my friends and family members, I would rather prefer the phone conversation over email communication.
Q.Do you like presents?Rather, I would say there would be very few people who would not like getting presents. Gifts are always special and preserve the memory of special events or people. I do love to get presents – be it a simple post card to an expensive laptop. They are always special to me.
Q.What is your favorite gift? Why?As of now, my favourite gift would be a car, as I don’t owe one. I have been planning to buy one for the last couple of years and in fact I am saving money to buy one soon. So from this regards, having a car as a gift would be a pleasant surprise to me. But, may be this is too much to expect. As usual gifts I prefer books. They are a good source of knowledge and I have a passion of reading books and my book collection is quite rich I would say. I love to read and collect books. So books as a presents are quite fascinating for me.
Q.Have you received gifts that you did not like?Yes, there have been instances when I did receive gifts which I didn’t like; like a pen or a chocolate.
Q.How did you feel about it?I did feel bad about the gift I received but I never made the person who gave me that gift know about it as it would only hurt the sentiments of the person. I am not a chocolate lover and that’s why the chocolate as a gift is not an amusing experience for me. I rarely need to write on papers and I have many pens which are still intact. So as gifts these two items are not my favourite at all –rather contrary. However, I always respect the affection behind the gifts. So even if I do not like the gift items, I wholeheartedly welcome the person who gives it to me.

Is it better to have a postcard or a photograph of the place you have visited?
In my opinion, it is always better to have a photograph of the place as the memory of clicking a photograph gets etched in the minds whereas a postcard only refreshes the memory of the place so visited.
Is it good to take pictures of historic buildings?
Yes, but only if the photograph of the individual is also clicked alongside or in the fore front of the historic building. But not all historic building or national heritage authority allows public to take photos. But there is no restriction on taking photo; I would say this is always good as a pleasant memory to recite later on.
Is it necessary to show photographs of places when advertising?
Yes it is necessary to show photographs of the places when advertising as advertising leaves a great impact on the mind of the person who views it. And a photograph when shown with the advertisement leaves an impression on the mind of the person who sees it. Moreover, it only helps in making the person remember a place, due to such photographs, while watching the advertisement.
Is having a collection of photo albums helpful in any way?
Of course yes, an album takes you down the memory lane in no time. One feels like being at the same place as soon as the photograph album is opened or is browsed through.

What is so interesting about collecting things?The most important aspect is that they will become as part of our life. When we see them, we remember our past or even our ancestors' face. For example, as I see my grandfather's watch, which gave it me as a collection, I remember him.

A. From my point of view, one important factor is having studious and continuous working. Although they might face numerous challenges and have many rivals, they do not lose their hope, surpassing their rivals. Having talented people and visionary managers and administrative personnel are important as well.

What companies are successful in your hometown? Are they small or big?Mostly food ones are more prosperous than the other ones and many of them are huge corporations with multitude branches. Other types of companies that are successful fall under the IT business and Oil Company.
Why are some companies more successful than others?These companies are mostly supported by the government, and even many officials are their major shareholders. As I said before, they have more tolerance to resist against difficult situations. They can find better solutions for their problems than the other ones. Successful companies are backed by talented people, prudent administration, huge money and a bit of luck.
Is it easier to work as an employee or to manage a company? Why?I think working as a simple staff is far simpler. They do not have any concern about bankruptcy or loosing of market share and money. A simple employee only follows the rules and works, although he or she has less income than a business person. In terms of easy life style doing job in a reputed and high paying organization is far better in my opinion. Running a successful business requires hard work, huge capital and vision. Not all people have these qualities

Do you work or study?A. I have done my graduation from India and I work as a medical professional in the United Kingdom for the time being.
What part of the day are you busy?A. I am busy during day hours with my patients and other appointments in hospital and clinics. As Saudi Arabia has the custom to spilt duties of doctors where you get an off during the mid day hours, so apart from that time I am quite busy duringassessing, treating patients and all those short of stuffs.
What part of the day do you like the most?A. I tend to get a short snap, not a sound sleep, though at noon hours when it is too hot outside, I think I enjoy it most, coming from the busy work place getting inside your blanket in a chilled room after a good meal is something precious for me. Yes definitely this is my favourite time during day hours!! I like the serenity at night time and when I am off duty, I read books or watch movies. This is also a very special time for me.
How many languages can you speak?A. I can speak Malayalam which is my mother tongue, Tamil, Hindi and Urdu very fluently. Those all are local languages in India. I speak English most of the time as I work in a plural environment where people from different languages and countries come and gather. I also know very basic of Arabian language that local people here speak all the time. I am not sure how good I am in speaking English; well I can tell you after the IELTS test results ... I guess.
What are the languages that you love to or will love to learn? Why?A. I love to learn new languages - being in Saudi Arabia I am under a constant effort to conquer Arabic language. Given an opportunity I would love to learn new languages like French for example, with which I suppose would be wobbling around in a few years from now, as I aspire to immigrate to Canada where it is a predominant language apart from English. Learning a new language always comes with an extra bonus to communicate as I read somewhere I cannot recollect though.- Better you communicate, the better you can negotiate, better you are going to succeed.

It requires utmost passion and mentality to embrace the unknown and challenges. All you can expect from this job is the unexpected!!

Are many people working nowadays in that field?Not much, but yes one could easily find many amateur explorers, in YouTube and all. I never heard of any schools or institution for studying such skills or people given training for an explorer job. Many are into this as part timers or they see it as a leisure or hobby but as a mainstream profession on exploring, no seldom would you find it, at least in my country.

What is the most common way to get a job now?You must have a university degree with good result and also relevant job experience to apply for a nice job in my country. It is very common among young generations to apply online through the job portals where employers have submitted their recruitment details. For government job one has to apply for an exam and after passing it s/he can get enrolled in such government job. There is a huge competition in this exam though.

For the competent job seekers, common way to get a job would be to go online searching it, and then apply for it. If you are selected in the interview, the job is yours. Sometimes the influence and reputed contact person might become helpful while nowadays social media like LinkedIn and Facebook has also become platforms for new job seekers.

What do you do to find a job in your country?It depends on the place you stay and the type of organizations you are applying to. In village areas newspaper advertisements, local government employment exchanges and bulleting are the way of knowing about a job circular and people there rely on these media to apply for aIn urban areas as mentioned before it’s basically newspaper, internet, social media etc. are the way to knowing about and applying for jobs. The interview of any job is the main criteria for ensuring a job. Most of the private companies decide the deserving candidates for the jobs during the interview. If you can ensure a nice impression during the interview, you are assured to get a job if other criteria are fulfilled.
Is it easy to find a job in your country? Why?India being one of the thickly populated countries does not offer a very flexibility to get aIt’s definitely not easy to find a job unless you have really impressive academic and job qualification. Or may be some times enough contacts! Yes finding a job is not that easy in India as the competition is pretty high. It is not unlikely that for a single job opening more than thousand of candidates compete! This is the reality of our job sector.
How do schools support students to help them select the job they like?Some schools provide vocational training in the subject of interest to students, nevertheless other schools they just train students with the formal education. So on an average, most of the schools in my country prepare students academically, and jobs are not the main concern of their studies. But yes, there are few schools, specially modern school who pay much attention on future job aspects of the students by ensuring necessary amendment on the syllabus, providing necessary training and welcoming prospective employers to visit them often.
What are the improvements that schools must have to identify talents of students?I would recommend that schools should take more surprise tests outside the academic lessons to find out who are doing better. The school authority should also have a rich lab, play ground, library with numerous books and other facilities to let the students choose in which activities they are good at. The teaching method should be more innovative and the students should be allowed to present their opinions on how teachers should teach better.

Apart from that, the schools authority must allocate a big budget to foster the talents the students might have. For instance, the school should find out which students have certain talents in singing, painting etc. Then they should be provided with special classes and training to bring out the best among those students.

Finally a creative and talented teacher can help a lot the identify talents of students. So the school should encourage more creative and innovative teachers to join their team.

Tell me about your hometown.I was born in a small city of China. It is small but quite interesting and beautiful area. Beautiful landscapes will attract anyone and nice people live over there. It is in the northern part of our country and has more than 2 million inhabitants.
What is it famous for?Well, it is a very small city. I could not think of anything famous there right now, but I guess the spicy food is quite remarkable, not for me, but for outsiders.
Did you play any sports when you were a child?Well, I was a quiet girl, not veryBut I did play some sports, such as badminton and ping pang. I was quite good at them actually.
Why did you like this kind of sport / activity?
Like I have said before, I was a quiet girl, so I was not very interested in team sports like football or basketball. Other sports like swimming, bicycle riding were not popular at that time, so badminton and ping pang worked out to be the best choice for me I guess.
Do you think boys and girls nowadays can play the same sports? Why?Of course they can. In fact I have not heard any sport that is restricted to one sex rather than the other in my country. It is just there are some differences in terms of choices and popularities due to the natural gender differences.
Do you think your children will play sports? Why?
Yes, definitely. I am not expecting my children to be excellent in sports, but I definitely will encourage them to play because playing sports helps build up physical strength and also interpersonal and social skills.

Q. Do you think children should be taught to save money from their childhood? Why?
A. Yes, I think children should be taught to save money when they are young. I believe there are two reasons: firstly, children can learn to respect their parents’ hard work from saving money. When they understand the value of money, and the expenditures in the house hold, they could appreciate more about the life that their parents have provided for them. Secondly, saving money is a great way to learn how to be independent, frugal and responsible. Children who learn to save money from their early ages often become more stable in their personal money management and possess positive attitude about investing money rather than spending it all.

Should parents buy everything their child asks for? Why?Absolutely not! Firstly, if children have always had what they want, they would take everything for granted. It will affect their life when they grow up because as adults, we can’t just ask for anything that we want. Secondly, just like I have said in the previous question, children have to learn their independence by saving up for something they want rather than being provided everything they want.
Is it easy for you to save money?No, I don’t think it could possibly be easy for anyone to save money, especially in these days when the living cost is very significant. Personally, I am studying full time and working part time, so at this stage, I could not save up any money at all, but I have plans to save money when I work full time. Because I am a very well organised person, and also not interested in luxury stuff, so it would not be too hard for me to save money.
Do people in countryside have different shopping attitude than people in a city? Why?Well, I am not sure about Australia, but in China, yes, it would be quite different in terms of what they shop, why they shop and how they shop. Residents in the countryside are generally poorer than the people who live in the city, so they have less consuming power. They would shop less frequently and the majority purchases will be necessities. Also, because the Internet and delivery limitations in the countryside, people tend to go to shops rather than shopping online like many people in the city do.

Is your profession popular in your country?Well, yes, my profession is popular in Russia. Originally, I am from Russia. I am an accountant. And you can find many other successful accountants in Russia. This is a demanding and well paid job in my country.
Did you enjoy visiting museums when you were a child?When I was a child, I really enjoyed visiting museums because it was interesting for me to see the real things from the past and read explanations what was it, to whom was it belong, what people did with some particular things in the past.
When did you visit a museum last time?Well, my last visit was during the last school holidays, in July 2015. I went there with my son to see the exhibition of dinosaurs.
What books do children enjoy reading in your country?In Russia children enjoy to read different kinds of books. I think, it depends on their age and gender. For example, boys under 5 years old prefer to read books about cars, whereas girls enjoy more to read stories about princess. If we are talking about children from 7 to 17, most of children read books that they have to read according to the school program such as history books, geography etc.

Part Three : Discussion

Do you think it is important to do something with another person?Well, it depends on what are you doing. For example, if you are doing an individual assignment, it is necessary to do it on your one. If you have to do some group work, of course, it is essential to do it with another person.

Generally, I believe that cooperation is a great skill, that requires to do some activities with different people which teach us how successfully work in a team. In today’s highly competitive environment, it is essential to do something with another person, cooperate and work or even play in a team. At the end of the day it will increase the value of both.
Is it important for children to have subjects in school that include working with another person?Yes, obviously, it is necessary. We are living in the world, which includes many people. Do we want or we don’t but we have to be able to work with different people. It is a requirement at schools, at universities and at work and actually everywhere.

At school children start to learn their general skills, which they will apply in the future and one of the most important skills is cooperation and work in a team.
What subjects would those be?It could be literature, foreign language where children can talk to each other and have a dialog. Also, it could be physical activity subjects as well. Group assignment could be given almost in all subjects including literature, History, Physics, Chemistry, Arts ect.
How could businesses work together with schools or universities?Businesses, schools or universities can cooperate together and help each other. For example, at school teachers can observe the achievement of different students and can recommend to the businesses if they are looking for an employee. Universities and businesses can be helpful to each other in the same way. Most students are looking for a job, while many companies are looking for right employees. They can cooperate and help each other through, for example, organizing job opportunity events.
How could wealthy countries help poor countries?I think there are different ways to help. One of them is to organize special organization that will help to some poor country. The employees and volunteers of this organization will assist local people by donating clothes, organizing free lunches, dinners for people who need help. Also, I think, it might be medical support. Wealthy country can send medicine to the poor countries. The wealthy countries can provide basic needs like education, treatment and shelter for the people of poor countries. They can take many infrastructure improvement related projects. They can provide research facilities and can open trade facilities to help the poor countries as well.

Where are you from?I am from Azerbaijan.
Tell me about the apartment that you live in.I don't live in an apartment. My family lives in a house. It is not a large house, but with a little yard it is suitable for us. It is an L shaped house with a nice garden at the backyard. We love to live here.
Do you have plans to stay or you want to leave?I don't have a plan of leaving my house until I enter a university. After I get admitted in a university, I might need to move to a new city. Apart from that, I don’t have plans to move now.
What you can see from the window of your house?My house is two-storey building, so it is not too high. We can see the whole street once we look through our window. The people, small vehicles are common on the road. If we look farther we can see many high rising buildings as well.
What kind of food do you like?I like my country's traditional food a lot, but Turkish food tastes delicious too.
Can you easily find the ingredients for making this food in market?Yes, certainly. It is convenient enough to get both traditional and Turkish food ingredients in markets.
Where do you eat your favorite food?My favorite food is definitely is made by my mom. I love her meals and desserts. So I eat my favourite food with my family members at home.
Were you helping your parents in cooking when you were a child?To be honest, usually not at all, but when I noticed they were exhausted, I always tried to give a hand. But that’s only related to helping them but not directly in cooking.
Did you cook? What did you cook?Actually, I can't cook many meals except breakfast. So I cooked scrambled eggs mostly.
What kind of music do you listen to?I usually listen to rap, traditional and pop music. I love pop most.
Name one of your favorite music bands.It is Qaya group. I like their music a lot. I often listen to their music and I have a good collection of their CDs.

Would you recommend that book to anyone? Why?Yes, definitely. This is in my opinion is one of the best book I have ever read and it was highly appreciated by the critiques and it has a very good rating. It has a deep moral and lesson and yet past paces. So I would recommend this book as a must
What types of books are popular among children and adults in your country?Children mostly read academic books. Apart from that they read fairy tales, detective books and adventurous stories mostly. On the other hand the reading lists among adults vary a great deal ranging from romantic, political, historical, adventurous, horror etc.
What are the impacts of modern life on reading?I think modern life hasn't influenced to the contrary of reading habits. It provided some other potential sources for reading. It is easy to purchase books, get review and track the reading using latest technology and book lovers are still present in our society as they were in the past generations. Some would say that we don’t have time to read books as we lead a busy life. But I won’t agree with that as I still see many people read books when they are waiting in the line, waiting for someone in a café. So interested readers always find times no matter how much busy they are.
Between books or movies which one in better and why? I like both books and movies. They are not alternative to each other. Rather they both have their own appealing. In terms of serious learning and knowledge books are better. In terms of visual presentation and entertainment and easy learning movies are far better. While a book enhances the imagination and creativity of a reader, movies present events and stories more vividly. In my opinion, both are equally important and I personally like both of them.
What are the problems faced by illiterate people in the society?
It is a big problem not to be able to read and write nowadays. In most of the cases they are not socially respected. Without education they can't enjoy the world known to the literate people. They need to rely on others for such matters including reading a letter written by a family member. They might be deceived easily as they never know what’s been written. They can’t write to their dearest person and can’t read the extraordinary stories others can read and enjoy.

Q.What places in your country should a foreigner visit?A. I am from Belgium and our country has many attractive tourist spots. Apart from that, Bruges is another attractive destination which was listed in the UNESCO World Heritage sites. Cathedral of Saint Bavo, Ghent is one of my favourite places in Belgium and I think this is a worth visiting place for any foreigner.

Belfry of Aalst and Saint Martin's Church are two places I would highly recommend to a new visitor. A visitor should spend a considerable amount of time visiting ‘t Gasthuys - Stedelijk Museum Aalst’ which is an interesting museum in my opinion.

What do the people mostly do in their leisure time in your country?We have a large country with a large population from different ethnicities and cultures. Their leisure activities thus vary to a great extent. Leisure activities among the city dwellers and villagers are not same also. But commonly people go outside for shopping, to meet friends, to watch movies in their leisure time. Many people walk in the morning and evening and also visit relatives and friends. Young generation mostly prefer to hang out with their friends and use internet in their leisure time. There are some sports lovers as well who mostly play different outdoor sports in their leisure time.
Q.What's the difference between holidays today and 5 years ago and the reasons for the change?Five years back, people were not much concerned about their holidays. Bu now, people give more importance for their holidays especially in planning stage. In addition, in the past people spent maximum one or two days for holidays. Compare the people's attitude to media between now and the past 20 years?A. On the one side, now people have become less trustful to new features of media. Using of more developed technology in camera or editing, people can be defrauded far easier than the past. However, some may say that the Internet has caused citizens to be able to check all news in different resources on the web. For example, they can check the latest one on CNN or BBC website in seconds and compare it with what they heard on TV, while in the past the only resource was newspaper or television. I personally agree with the second group because I think we have more choices to assess and examine the authenticity of news.

The traditional newspapers that were famous in last decade were the main source for news. TV and radio were two other media for news and communicating information and for entertainment as well. With the advancement of technology online newspapers, internet and online TV have become more popular nowadays.

Should we trust the journalists?A. I believe that we cannot solely rely on their reports. We have to check the authenticity of some news because reporting is a part of business, and employees may exaggerate an event based on their favorite or benefit. In this case, I have heard different news by different journalists about nuclear talks happened between Iran and 6 other countries recently. Furthermore, we should be very careful about some technical issues affecting the accuracy of a report. Some unpredictable problems may affect negatively the quality of a report. We should trust the journalist and their news to a certain extent but if the news has a chance to be influenced by political motive and personal benefit, we must rely on various authoritative sources as well as use our own
What do you think what a good journalist should be?A. Honesty, hardworking, and valuing other people’s opinions are the most important characters. How often do you watch films?I watch 2-3 movies per week. During the exam I don’t get the chance to watch movies but after my exam I often watch movies more than my usual frequency.
Do people generally prefer watching films at home or at the cinema? Why?I think most people prefer watching movies at home nowadays. With the introduction of Internet, smart TVs, Satellite channels and 3D movies, people can nowadays have a great movie viewing experience at home. Watching movies at home is far more convenient and less expensive than watching cinema in a movie theatre.
Would you like to be in a film?I don’t think so. I am a great fan of movies but acting in a movie is something I have never considered. Do you think what children see on TV affects their behavior?Yes, I agree with the notion that children get affected from the TV programmes they watch. Children learn things very fast and TV programmes have a great influence on shaping their behaviour, thinking and attitude. I remember mimicking my favourite cartoon heroes when I was a child and that is, in fact, true for all human beings. Children psychology catches the things they see and listen. And that’s why they are likely to be affected positively as well as negatively from the TV programmes they watch.
In your opinion do children watch too much TV?I don’t think that children nowadays watch too much TV. Though they like watching cartoons and other TV programmes a lot, the parents often forbid them to watch TV too much. Due to the pressure of study and with the easy access to computer games, children nowadays do not have the scope and interest to watch TV all the time. But I would agree that there must be many children who watch it more than they should.
Do you think there are too many foreign films on TV? Why?I think people nowadays have satellite connection with channels from different countries and that’s why they have plenty of options to watch movies made in foreign countries. The globalization has also contributed to promote the foreign movies and many people prefer to watch Hollywood movies over their local movies. So I would agree that there are too many foreign movies on TV but it’s also true that a viewer always has the chance to watch movies made in his/ her own country.
Should the Government control what we watch?I think in this era of democracy and free speech it would be a bad idea for any government to try to control or impose restriction on our TV viewing activity. First of all, the Government would have to face a huge criticism and pressure from citizens. Second, a democratic government should never try to impose this to the citizens as that would make them act like an autocratic government.

However, if a particular TV channel broadcasts any program that might be offensive for the country and its tradition, too much violent and uncensored, I would opine that the government can ban this channel.

In short I would say the control should be for the people’s benefit and to control any possible conflict but not to take away people’s freedom.

Could you please explain with some examples about the changes of technology which are used by people in our daily life between now and the past 20 years?Nowadays cell phones, washing machines, vacuum cleaners, TV, refrigerators, air conditioners, microwave oven etc. are pretty common in our daily life but 20 years ago those were rare. There were very companies that used computer and internet but this has become very common in work places now a days.

One of the most obvious modifications is usage of robots in industries. These intelligent mechanized devices have helped us to be able to manufacture products far simpler than before. For example, for producing a car, now engineers use them to assemble just over 90% of all parts of them, and humans’ role has become less obvious in this industry, while 20 years ago this technology was not so popular.

The Internet is the most common technology that we use every day. By accessing to it, we can communicate to other people through our computer, checking our email, downloading our favorite files or watching online movies; however, in the past they were not invented, and people did not know anything about this method of connection.

Can you describe your home town/ village?Sure. As I already said, I come from Johor Bahru, which is the second largest city in Malaysia with more than four hundred thousand population. This is a beautiful city with lots of tourist attractions and many Indonesian tourists love to shop here because of the variety of shopping items and cheap prices. The city was also once known as Little Swatow (Shantou) by the Chinese community. As this is the capital city of Johor, it plays a very important role in the economic welfare of the population of the entire state.

Johor Bahru features an equatorial climate with consistent temperatures, considerable amount of rain and high humidity throughout the year. Malay is the main language in our city and the Chinese community prefers different dialects. Johor Bahru is one of the fastest-growing cities in our country and its specific location is one of the main reasons it became the main industrial and commercial centre for Johor.

I love the lively streets and diverse culture of our city and I am sure a tourist would find a plenty of things to do and numerous places to visit in my city.

What are the advantages of living in a big city?A big city offers better job opportunity, better educational institutions, better shopping malls and business opportunity. The traffic and streets are strictly monitored and there are law enforcing officers to help in case someone needs them.

The living standard is better in a big city and modern technology and facilities are available. In my opinion, a big city is better place to live in.

Q. What are the negative aspects of crowded cities?
A crowded city is often polluted. In terms of sound, air and other pollutions, a crowded city has a worse scenario than cities will less population. Many crowded cities have more crime rates and unbearable traffic congestion. The over population increases the prices of daily commodity and this it is comparatively expensive to live in a city with higher population.
Why do you think that the architectural design of a city is important?It makes a city distinctive and attractive to the tourists. The architectural design of a city often reflects the tradition and heritage of a nation and thus it is important to preserve the history of a nation through the architectural design of the city.

Besides, a rich architectural design of a city would attract more tourists that would contribute to the overall GDP of a country.

Let’s talk about your home town or village.

What kind of place is it?A. As a matter of fact, I was born in a city where I still reside, which is New Delhi. As far as my parents are concerned, even they were born in New Delhi. This is a beautiful city with lots of evidence and marks of history, tradition and modernizations. It’s the capital of India and indeed a massive metropolitan area which is situated in the north side of the country.
What’s the most interesting part of your home area?A.The modern facilities that have come up in the city is one of the most interesting parts due to which I would say that I like my home area. The medical facilities along with the education have really developed in the past decade or so. In terms of places India Gate, Lotus temple, Qutb Minar, The Red Fort are some interesting places and attraction in my home town.
What kind of jobs do the people in your town/ village do?A.My town mostly consists of the people who belong to the working class. As a matter of fact, due to presence of quite a many government offices in the city of New Delhi, a majority part of habitants belong to the working class. Many of them work in Government and semi-government offices while many other work in private organizations and multinational companies. The numbers of business persons are quite high as well.
Is your home town changing?A.Yes, and in a very fast pace. Over the past few years, there has been a welcoming change as far as the public transport hasApart from this, as already informed, there has been an increase in the area of medical facilities in the form of hospitals catering with up to date and latest machines. More and more people are coming to live in the capital city for better employment, education and treatment. As a result the population here is also increasing.
Would you say it is a good place to live? Why?A. Yes, it definitely is a good place to live in. There are various opportunities for the employment and education, the transportation facility is nice and the beautiful and planned city is indeed a nice place to live in.
Q. What changes would you like to make to your home town?
A.The one change that I would definitely like to make to my home town is the safety for the women. Of late, there have been instances when women have been harassed in my city. This one thing has brought shame to my town, so it would be my endeavor to bring this change to my city. Apart from that, I would like to change the way some business markets have emerged. I would like the city to have more security and law enforcing force and security camera to monitor every street vulnerable to crime.

Let’s talk about what you do. Do you work or are you a student?

Q. What’s your job? Why did you choose that kind of work?
A.My current job is to procure the aircraft parts from the vendors, across the globe. It includes floating of quotations, tenders, analyzing them and then ordering the item on the vendor who quotes the least. And this job is not by choice but by compulsion.

Q. How long have you been doing it?
A.It’s been approximately two decades since I am in my current job.
Q. What is a typical day like at your work?
A.A typical day consists of sitting down in front of the desktop and going through the mails received a day earlier, analyzing them and then taking necessary actions. Sometimes attending meeting is mandatory and then preparing my upcoming tasks is also required. I take half an hour break for lunch and again followed up with the same routine.
Are there things you don’t like about it? What are they?A.The ‘monotony’ of my tasks is something I do not like at all. The job is too monotonous and this adds up to the frustration. Apart from my job being monotonous, there is one more thing that I would like to change and that is the timing. The duty hours are too long which starts from 9 in the morning till 6 in the evening.

Study:What subjects are you studying?A.Currently, I am pursuing my Masters in Law and the subject that I am studying now includes Jurisprudence, Company Law, International Law… to name a few.
Q. Why did you choose those subjects? How long have you been studying them?
A.I chose these subjects because it was my passion to have a qualification in the field of Law. I always had the passion towards this profession of Law. And moreover, it boosts self confidence in me. It’s been almost 2 years since I am studying it.
Q. Do you enjoy them? Why?
A.Yes, I do enjoy these subjects as I told that it was due to my sheer passion towards this profession that I chose this subject.
Q. Are there many job opportunities for you?
A.Yes, there are plenty of job opportunities for a qualified Lawyer. Apart from the job opportunities, there is a possibility of starting your own practice. One can be the boss of his own fate by pursuing a Law practice.
Q. What is the best thing about studying?
A.The best thing about studying is that the learning curve remains upward. And moreover, the mental faculties are also alert which ultimately helps in keeping a person active and not getting old. Apart from this, one always feels like being an earnest learner at every step of life. Studying not only ensures the degree we need to have a better career, but also makes us ready for the upcoming challenges. This is the most common method to learn about the world, people and untold stories of the history.

To me, studying is a very important activity that remains me updates, enhances my knowledge, entertain me and prepare me to take challenges.

Is friendship important in your culture?A.Yes, friendship definitely does stands out at a pedestal which is above, I would like to say, above than the pedestal where relationship stands at. However, here I would also like to mention that with the term relationship, I would like to exclude the relationship of one with his or her spouse. In our culture we revere our friendship. We often recite that life is impossible without friends. Friendship is very special in our country, tradition and society.
How many close friends can you have?A.There is definitely a limit to all the good things that one can have access to. Similarly, though one can have ‘n’ number of friends but there are a very few who can be categorized as close friend, those whom one can confide in and have a heart to heart talk. In my case I can have 2-3 very close friends.
Are friends more important than family?A. No, I would not support this statement. There is no doubt that in case of need, it is the friends who will be beside you, but then we cannot compare family. Once again I would like to say that family in this instance comprises of the spouse, the parents and children, and their relationship is beyond comparison. Yes friends do definitely have a special edge in our life but family comes first. Perhaps then stands the friendship which is very important as well.
What are the qualities of a good friend?A. A good friend is a person in whom one can confide, can share one’s heart out. Rather share anything and everything without even thinking about the after effects of it. A good friend is also one who gives you a frank, fair and genuine advice, guidance and support in the hour of your need.

Yes, I use internet almost every day. Q. How about in the future? How important the internet will become in our daily lives?
In future we would be greatly dependant on internet. From simple Google search to utility bill payment, from submitting class assignment to booking air tickets, we will rely on internet. We will also use it in our education and communication sectors. This day is not far when we will rely on internet to purchase everything we need in our life. The job, education, news, entertainment, survey, research all will rely on this technology. A significant proportion of professionals and businessmen would rely on internet as their main source of earning and business. Traditional marketing and brick and mortar business would be replaced by Internet marketing and ecommerce. There will be pretty few things that we would be able to do without the dependency on internet in the future.

What are the differences of watching movies and reading books?A movie is an audio-visual presentation while a book is a composition of written words. They are both great sources of entertainment and knowledge. However, reading a book in my opinion if more effective than watching a movie. A great number of actors as well as producer, screen writer, director and other staffs are required to finally produce a movie while book is the printed version of the writing of a writer.

Movies present a story using different actors and actress and the acting is captured using a camera and then finally edited before releasing, while the books are mainly printed after being edited and corrected. We can watch movies with others but we usually read books alone.

Movies are the sources of easy entertainment and people naturally love to watch movies as pure source of entertainment although there are numerous movies that have deep underlying themes and lessons. On the contrary, most books enhance the knowledge and imagination power of readers and preferred by book lovers only.

Which one is more powerful? Why?In my opinion books are more powerful. A book is aimed to deliver a story, lesson and is a great source of information. Reading books enhances our knowledge, imagination and our horizon of wisdom. Most of the books are packed with the experience and imagination of writers and are the witness of history and time. Reading books is far better in terms of enhancing knowledge in my opinion.

While watching a movie, we mainly concentrate on the story and visual presentation of it. That gives us pure entertainment but in terms of provoking our brain, it is less effective than reading books. Books presents us words and with this a hypothetical world that we need to imagine in our mind. In case of movies, things are already seen; there are little score to use our imagination power.

Q. Do you like to watch movie staying at home in Television or in a theater? Why?
I mostly prefer watching movies at home. I won’t say that I do not like watching a movie in a movie theater, but at home I have more control on what movie to watch and when. I can even change the movie if I find it boring but I do not have this option in a movie theatre.

With the advancement of technology and internet, we have now large smart TVs that offer almost similar experience that we can have in a theatre.

How can movies help up to shape our society?Movies reach to a large segment of people in a society and people often watch movies. Thus the movie can be an effective media for entertainment as well as tools for changing our society for the better. A good movie that focuses on the pressing issues of a society can create awareness of the problem and can also suggest some solutions.

If movies are based on real event and historical facts, people would learn about their history and past that might help them to become better citizens. Movie actors and actresses are quite popular in many societies and they can pass moral lessons to their fans.

Movies reflect the society and the people as a whole and thus have a great influence to shape the mentality of the people. It is not unusual that people would try to mimic the personality, behaviour, costumes of their famous actors and movie producers can use this as a positive tool to foster a better new generation.

Q. What do you like about work you do?
A. I had almost no experience in banking and financial sector before I joined the Bank. I have learned how the Banking sector function, how it helps rolling the economy of the country, how it contribute to ensure the money supply in the market and how financial world function. I am yet to learn a lot but I would say I have learned a lot in the last 14 months. The opportunity to learn is the most important aspect that I really love about my job. The working environment, the coworkers and the salary structure are other attractive things I like about this job.

A.I would recommend more Bank account types for different segments of population, also adding innovative and modern banking and more transparency in the Bank business. The bank is pretty organized and structures in Italy. There would be very little to change. But in terms of adding innovation there are still plenty of scopes to implement.

A.I am not that much fan of shopping but yes, sometimes I love to shop, especially the food items, electronic gadgets, clothes and household appliances are in my favourite shopping list.

A.I mostly shop food items for my home. Besides that I often go to shopping malls to purchase clothes, electronic and home appliances. Whenever I find that my food reserve and daily necessity items are almost consumes, I feel the need to visit a shop. For the clothing items, I usually shop for different occasions.

A.I usually shop the food items in the early morning. For the cloths and other items I prefer shopping in the evening. From my experience, fresh food items and vegetables could be bought in the early morning when the shops get the supply. In the evening the fruits and vegetables are not as fresh as they are in the morning. And that’s why I prefer purchasing them in the morning.

On the other hand, I have more time to roam in the shopping malls in the evening after my work and for this I prefer this time for buying items like electronic gadgets, clothes etc.

Many parents take their children to their relative or friends’ houses where they play and make friends with other kids. They are also allowed to watch cartoon and other programmes suitable for them.
Q. What do you need to do to interest a child in such activities?
A.We need to show our own engagement on an activity to show a child that this is particularly enjoyable and exciting. A child would easily engage in an interesting game if s/he notices that the adults are playing it. For creative activities like drawing, dancing, singing we need to inspire the child and appreciate his/ her talent. We need to give them the positive environment as well as making the activity fun to attract them. For visiting educative places like zoological garden and museum we need to take them the places and explain their significance. Finally a child is naturally fond of TV programmes like cartoon.
Q. What activities do you think there will be in the future?
A.As the technology is advancing rapidly and is becoming more popular among the children, I think computer games, Internet and TV programmes would become more popular among children in the future. The schools are evolving from merely educational institutions to more entertaining and interactive, the schools would arrange more social gathering, party and tour that would become prominent in the future and many children would get engaged on these activities. Parents would become more conscious to nurture the hidden talents among their kinds and that’s why they would take them to different places to let them experience the world.
Q. What kind of pressure do children have at school?
A.From my experience I can say that children nowadays have more classes to attend, more home works to do and more exam to take. From this regards, the children are burdened with the extended syllabus and lot of home-works. Many schools even make the project works and day-long classes mandatory and as a result today’s children are under lot of pressure.
Q. What is your view of the school of the future?
A.I am pretty sure in future schools would become more interactive and interesting than it is now. Computer based lessons and online exams would become the main trend of education system and most of the schools would adopt the technology. Besides, they would focus on practical lessons than all theoretical study and finally the teachers would be more skilled to handle the kinds in schools. Schools would focus on nurturing the potential talents of children and thus would develop more extracurricular activities to offer to the children.

Well, my country has the world's largest democracy with more than 125 crore residents. Additionally, you won't be able to find another nation like India with its vast diversity in culture, language, customs and race. The simple and amiable people who represent the country are quite helpful to others. Our country has a vast diversity of natural beauty and if you travel India, you can in a sense say that you have travelled the entire world.
Q. What street do you live in?
As I have already mentioned, I live in the city of Jubail, and the street where I live is Jubail Central Street.
Q. What is the street called?
It's Jubail Central Street.
Q. Why is your street called this way?
Well, I suppose, it's because this street extends from the heart of the city to the Northern end. I don't know if there are any other factors which attribute to this name.
Q. Do you like your street?
By contrast to the other streets, this is my favorite one. The most significant reason for this could be the fact that, it's the busiest street in the city with all types of shopping destinations.
Q. What do you like in your street?
I presume, it's the ambience and the busy nature of the street. It's so nice to commute around during busy hours.
Q. Do you like living in this city? Why?
Yes, as a matter of fact, I like this city more than any other cities in Saudi Arabia. My city is the home to some of the major petro chemical companies in the world and maybe that's the reason why Jubail is regarded as the largest Industrial city in the Middle East. It is a beautiful city with all the facilities a city dweller can expect.
Q. Are you a city dweller? Why?
Yes. I am. I like to explore the nook and corner of the city, looking for best restaurants, and entertainment centers. Moreover, I love to live in a city than in a village.
Q. What do you like doing with your friends?
Primarily, I would say, it's partying. I love to enjoy the weekends with friends. I would also like to watch movies when my friends are around. Sometimes I love to discuss the recent events and politics with my friends.

Moreover, it's a chance to meet new people and to refresh relationships with people around us.
Q. Are you a goal-settler? Why?
I wouldn't dare to say I am a goal setter. I would rather like to experience everything which comes in my way, than creating goals and waiting for them to be achieved. I have always believed that when you live, you need to exhibit certain ethics and moral values, which would take you to your destiny and till this moment, it comes true in my life.
Q. Do you prefer celebrating family occasions at home or in a restaurant? Why?
Definitely home. It's the place where we spend most of our life. I would not risk spoiling my memories, at a place which has little significance to us. Moreover, at home, I feel safe and happy with my dearest people around me. I don't know, why, but I have seen many people partying at restaurants and I presume it's always a personal choice.

The medical report done by me can help people prevent serious diseases, such as lung cancer, at the very early stage. My job also helps improve public health. For example, I was one of the technicians to provide the results of people body check last year. From this regards, I would recommend this job to others who want to help people as well as have a meaningful career.
What are the types of shops that you usually go to? I usually go to supermarket. Actually I go to a supermarket three times a week for my various needs for shopping.
What is the name of the shop? The name of the shop I usually go to is called ‘Welcome’ and ‘Supreme Market’.
Q. What changes have you seen in those shops these days?
Honesty, I haven't seen any significant changes in those shops these days. While, I do see some changes on the way people purchase their goods. Apart from better decoration and more sales persons, things have been almost same as it was few years ago.
Do you read books? What kinds of books?Not really. I read research papers regularly. I used to read a lot but nowadays I spend most of time reading professional readings.
Q. Did you read books when you were a child? How often?
Yes, I did. I read fairy tales when I was a child, like Snow White and Cinderella. I used to read fairy tales every day after school.
Do children nowadays love reading?I'm afraid not. Children nowadays prefer to play games on iPod and in other gaming devices, rather than reading books. In our childhood, reading books was the main activity among children but nowadays children have electronic gadgets and internet connection to spend time. So they read less on an average than our generation.
Would you give a book as a gift?Definitely I would. In fact I often do that. I gave my best friend the book called "Bridget Jones's Diary" as her birthday present recently.

Q. Compare reading a newspaper and a magazine.
Newspaper, as its name suggests, includes all kinds of news and recent events and editorials. For example, by reading daily newspaper, we can get all information happened yesterday and in the week, sometimes even today’s event. While, magazines, on the other hand, are more likely to focus on certain area, such as geography, spots, short story, significant recent events etc. For instance, the magazine "Hello", includes lots of news about celebrities. People, who like stars like Beyonce or Victoria, can get special information from it.

Finally, newspapers are targeted for all the people while magazine targets people with special attraction to a certain niche or field. For instance, a newspaper might include an interesting news about a successful genetic engineering experiment that has grabbed a considerable attention on people recently with other regular and diverse type of news. On the other hand a magazine which is based on Genetic Engineering is aimed to target professionals and students of this field and would cover most of its articles on this subject.

Q. How do people read them? Do they just read the headlines or the entire story?
It depends. Most people prefer to read the headlines first. If the headline attracts their attention, they prefer to read the whole story. For some certain people, they are the fan of some newspaper or magazine, and they are likely to read all of them.

Again, in case of newspapers, people read the headlines and often skim though the news. Magazine readers prefer mostly to read the details article.
Q. Why do people read magazines?
Like I said earlier, people read magazines to seek certain information. People read "Hello" and "US weekly" to get gossip and fashion news of celebrities. Geography and Nutrients are the magazines that offer the knowledge in special areas. Many professionals and students prefer to read magazines as those often come with special news, in depth articles and research papers related to their profession and study.
Q. Is reading the newspaper popular in your country?
Yes, newspaper reading among people is quite popular actually. Evening papers are the most popular newspapers in my country. We get to know news from it every day. For example, the new policy issued by the government, and the construction about the train could be learned from such daily newspapers.
Q. What are the other sources of news? Do people from the rural areas have the same access to these sources as people from the urban areas?
People can obtain news by watching TV and using the internet. These are also the population ways to get news. I believe so. In our modern society, even newspaper and magazine are popular, watching TV and internet become the most important and convenient ways for people no matter where they are living.
Q What are the advantages of the Internet?
When people read a newspaper or a magazine, they can't choose what kind of information exactly they are willing to read. For example, it is hard to chase a piece of information about how a special medical technique developed in this month by reading them. But it works with internet. People can simply put keywords in Google search and get the results in one second. It is easier and more convenient. Again it’s not possible to purchase all the newspapers and magazines from a store. On the contrary, you can read as many newspapers, magazines and other news sources from internet. With the popularity of social media like Twitter and Facebook, the news are being shared and read by people without even searching for them. So I would say the advantages of internet as a whole and in terms of communication and news source is unparalleled.
Q. Are there any disadvantages?
Of course it has. Every coin has two sides. The disadvantage for using the internet is that there are too many results and we have to choose which one to read that contains more useful information. The other disadvantage is that it is not very healthy to sit in front of laptop or computer for a long time. Finally, the news sources are not always authentic and one can often get biased and false news from the internet.
Q. Describe the impact of the internet in the lives of the students.
It depends. For high school students, I think the negative impact overtake the position parts. They are more likely to be attracted by internet games, instead of learning things. They would spend too much time chatting and playing games than reading interesting

The college students can control them better than high school students. Internet is a useful tool for them. Internet can offer them information to help them find the reference materials, especially for their dissertations and assignments.

For younger students like primary and secondary students, I think they should not use the internet at all. It is obvious that they will hurt their eyes and might find unsuitable content which is detrimental for their physical and psychological growth.

Overall, students are relying on internet heavily than the past generation. They find study materials, they submit their homework, find references from internet and that has many positive sides in terms of their interaction with the teachers and classmates.
Q. Do you recommend that all countries adopt the latest trends in technology?
I don't think so. Whether the latest trends in technology should be used or not depends on the development of the country. For example, when the technique of mitochondrial donation was published early this year, it was impossible for some developing countries to adopt this. It is not only because the money spent on this technique is expensive, but also the condition of technique in the country. Maybe America can use this one quickly, but for some countries, they can't even think about this when many people are living in poverty.

However, the widely accepted technologies like online learning should be adopted by all countries for the sake of advancement.

Well, private cars and public buses are the most two common types of vehicles in my town. Taxis and trams are also available. To reach a far destination within the city one can also take a metro rail.
Q. Which types of transportation do you often use to move?
I mostly use public buses to move from one place to another within the city. If I need to visit outside the city, I take the train and that’s the most convenient way of travelling for long distance travelling in our city. Sometimes I hire a taxi, which is bit expensive, to reach important places where I need to maintain strict time schedule like I did today.
Q. Do you think that new transportation system should be introduced in your city? Why?
I don’t think new transportation system would be required in my city right now. However the existing transportation system like public bus and tram should be renovated. The number of such public transportations should also be increased for the convenience of the commuters.

I would like to visit Brussels, which is the Capital of Belgium. This city is quite distinctive and after I saw a documentary on this city in Discovery Channel, I made my mind to visit this city someday. The heart of the city has the ornate Grand-Place and many cafes and fast food shops inside the 17th-century guildhouses. This city is the symbol of ancient prominence and the intricate Gothic Hôtel de Ville (town hall) with its distinctive bell tower is something worth visiting.
Q. What will you suggest to a tourist who came to visit your country?
A. I would suggest any foreign tourist to visit the National Museum first. This would be an excellent opportunity for him/ her to learn about our history and traditions. I would also advise this person to stay at the northern rural part of the country to observe some of the historically important significances of 17th century. The city center at the west part of our capital offers excellent chance to observe the lively gathering of people from different professions. The main attraction of this place is actually the most popular coffee shop in our city and one of the best places to know about the people of our country. The Beach in the city of Ghaham is another attractive place this person should visit. The exotic foods, tranquility of the nature and wild beauties of the birds and animals are sure to amaze his/ her.
Q. Why traveling is important?
Traveling is in fact a unique experience and a great source of firsthand knowledge. Travelling helps us to broaden our horizon of knowledge and deepen our understanding of the world, people and different cultures. Lessons learned from traveling different places are proven to be quite effective in practical life. Knowledge gained from books is often too much theoretical while traveling on the other hand gives us excellent opportunity to learn about life, culture, history and geography. There is a quite interesting saying that represents the true importance and significance of traveling: “The more you will read the more will you learn. And the more you will learn the more places you would want to travel.”
Q. Have you ever been to a foreign country?
Yes, I have been to several foreign countries including UK, India, Malaysia, Spain and Nepal. Each country has its own traditions and infrastructures so they gave me a whole new experience as a visitor.
Q. How do you compare the country you have visited with your own?
Well, the countries I have visited are quite different than my home country in terms of people, their way of grooming, the language the use, the buildings, the history, the foods and many other aspects. While my countries have very few skyscrapers and high rising buildings, UK and Spain had plenty of them. The foods and people’s interactions were different. Finally I am accustomed with all the aspects and way of life in my home country while these two were quite new for me in other countries.

Q. Tell me about your typical weekday and your typical weekend.
A• In a typical weekday I have to wake up a bit early and revise my university lessons and then I rush to the university campus to attend the lecture. At around 2.00 pm I eat my lunch in the cafeteria and spent the whole evening in the library. After I return home at around 7.00 pm I spent my time in my study room and have my dinner with my family members. I watch a news channel for an hour and then get back to my room. I read a story book for a while and at around 1.00 am I go to bed.

On the contrary, in a typical weekend I wake up late and take my breakfast in the TV room while surfing the TV channels. I go to shop with my father at around 12.00 and eat my lunch with my family members. I either take a nap or play computer games in the noon and in the evening I meet my friends. At night I watch a movie and take my dinner late than usual. I surf the internet and watch TV sometimes at night.

Q. What is the balance of work/ study and free time in your normal day?
A• In a typical weekday, I have to put more emphasize on my study, classes and assignment. But that does not make me totally busy not to have my very personal time at all. Amid of a busy day I find my times. For instance, after I wake up in the morning, I meet my parents and spent few times with them. In my way to my university I read story books or magazines. During the break of my classes I gossip with my classmates and sometimes I meet my friends on my way back to home. I help my mom on some household works at night and I make time to watch TV, browse internet and reading novel. So I would say my daily routine is kind of balanced and I am contented with that.

Q.What kind of possessions show status in your country?A• Well, in our country a large house, expensive and latest car, latest electronic gadgets are often considered to be the possessions of high status. Apart from that, a top position in a well-known company and exposure to media are two others things that people often consider as symbols of high status.
Q.Do you think it was different for your grandparents?A• I think it was not much different. The electronic gadgets would be the latest additions though. During my grandparent’s era, the symbols of status were land ownership, political influence, big houses, and expensive cars - which were quite similar as they are today. I guess the so called status symbols are quite materialistic in our society and that’s why it was not much different for my grandparents as well.

The consumer society
Q.Modern society is often called ‘materialistic’. Why do you think this is?A• This is mainly because of our inclination to worldly success and competition to possess more than we need. The globalization has also affected our mentality to possess more and more than ever before. We compete with others and put too much concern about our status. The old ways of traditional life and values have declined alarmingly among the societies and we are following the trend without giving much consideration. The decline of family bonding and patriotism are also making us more materialistic. We feel proud to own a luxury car, latest cell phone and powerful parents while we think very less about the people who are suffering from daily basic needs. This mentality is like a virus and competition among us is also making it worse.
Q.Do you think consumerism is a positive or a negative development?A• The concept of consumerism causes a materialistic belief that the more materials acquired by an individual the better, implying an increased value placed on material possessions. In my opinion this is a negative development. While millions of people are starving every day, others are changing their mobile phone and car every few months. The waste disposal has already become a huge issue and the increased usages of electronic devices are increasing the world temperature which is dangerous for the world. The consumerism also makes people more materialistic and thus they forget the traditions and values of their society.

Q.What is the role of advertising?A• The true role of advertising is to promote a product or service among the potential consumers and customers. Advertising is particularly important to establish the brand reputation in the market and to allure people to purchase a product or to enlist to a service offered. Advertisement from non-profit organizations and Government often aim to create awareness on important issues among people.
Q.How do you think the Internet will affect buying patterns in the future?A• Internet has already established its supremacy in the consumer market and a lot of people nowadays purchase products or services online. The ecommerce is booming and it is not far away when people would absolutely rely on online shopping than the conventional market place. I am from Singapore and my country is not only famous for high-end shopping malls, fine dining and luxury hotels but also it has a vibrant history and diverse ethnic quarters, lovely public places and many tourists attractions. For a visitor I would suggest Marina Bay Sands, Chinatown, Changi Chapel and Museum, Sentosa Island and Singapore Flyer. Those are already very famous tourist spots in our country and a visitor would definitely enjoy the lovely sights and attractive landscapes there.
If the visitor loves shopping, Singapore is the place to be.

The rich collection antiques, local products, electronic gadgets and other necessary things make the Singapore shopping malls hot favourite among visiting tourists. Dining is another great experience a tourist can have from here and the museums and botanical gardens would be exquisite places for any tourists to explore and learn about true Asian traditions and customs.

Are there any traditional arts or music you would recommend?We have comparatively young history and we went through a rapid modernization and due to this genuine art, cultural heritage and music are not as diverse as it should have been. However, in terms of rich ethnic markup without any double we have the best Western-style performing arts such as opera or ballet as well as plenty of indigenous Malay, Indian and Chinese arts.

Each of the ethnic group here maintains their traditional music, art and artistic heritage. We have vibrant artist galleries and exhibition works across the country.

There is no better place than Singapore Art Museum to get a through grounding in Singaporean visual art. Singapore Symphony Orchestra at Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay is a place I would recommend highly. Tell me about the kind of foreign visitors or tourists who go to your country.Tourism in Singapore is very famous and it is indeed a major industry to our economy and GDP. We get more than double tourists each year than our own population. Majority of the tourists who visit Singapore come from Indonesia, Malaysia, China, Australia and India. Other countries from where a significant numbers of tourists visit Singapore each year are the Philippines, Japan, the UK, Thailand and the United States.

The visiting tourists come from different age groups and among them 20-40 years old could be seen more frequently. Some tourists come to enjoy their holidays, some come for shopping and business needs and some of them are adventure seekers and explorer.

In what ways has tourism changed your country?Tourism is one of the most significant contributors to our economy. The number of tourists come here is much higher than our own population. Because of the substantial growth in tourism in Singapore both seasonal and fulltime job opportunity has increased. Cross cultural and intercultural communications have developed and many extensive constructions and infrastructural development have been done by the Government. For example the creation of SembCorp NEWater plant has been established in Singapore which is one of the world's largest water recycling facilities now.Because of the tourists from different countries, our own heritage has been greatly enriched and it has become a lively place.

Among the negative impacts I would say air pollution has increased from all the carbon emissions from planes and land transport. Some loss of authenticity of culture and traditions was obvious.

How important are ceremonies in our lives?Ceremonies are our expressions of joy, passion, devotion and bonding. We celebrate through the different ceremonies we have in our life. Some ceremonies have religious, patriotic, cultural and traditional significance. They are filled with ritual and it helps us to acknowledge the true meaning of our life and presence.

Many ceremonies strengthen our family and social bonding. We celebrate to welcome a new born in this world, to cherish our memory, to congratulate someone; in graduation, marriage and anniversary ceremonies. Many ceremonies show that we care, and we are true friends; which simply help to heal the wound.

Ceremonies motivate us, inspire us and refresh us to work in new spirit and some ceremonies let us forget our woes and depression. Some ceremonies like New Year eve, Christmas, Eid are celebrated worldwide and remind us who we are, what course of actions define us. Finally ceremonies can bring enemies together to forget their hostility and gives us excellent opportunity to know new people and make friends.

Q. Do you see the role of private and public ceremonies changing in the future?
A. I think I have already observed some changes in the role of both private and public ceremonies in our life. That’s why I believe that the ceremonies as well as their roles in our personal and social life would also change in the future. For example, some ceremonies are not as widely celebrates as we used to do it in the past. Many public ceremonies have political relation and that would surely be changed.

In terms of role of private ceremonies; their role would changed in terms of their influence on our personal and social life. Since people in different era have different doctrine and way of living, the role of private festivals thus changes over time. The public ceremonies changes based on a country’s economical and political situations, so do they roles in our lives.

Attitudes to marriage in your country:

Have attitudes to marriage changed in recent years?Yes, in my opinion that has changed a lot. While arranged marriage was the norm in past decade, people no longer follow this trend nowadays. The average age of marriage for both male and female is around 25 years, while it was far less than that just in last decade. Parents in older generations prepared their daughters to get married with established men. This attitude has changed and they are now making sure that their daughters have their own identity and establishment before getting married.

While the number of single father or single mother in our country was very few, this has increased nowadays and seems like this is because of the increased divorce rate.

Q. In what ways do men and women feel differently about marriage, in your opinion?
A. I think the basic feelings of marriage would be same for both men and women. This includes the excitement, some anxiety, dream, hope, uncertain new lifestyle, responsibilities etc.

But it’s also true that in our society marriage means a bonding between a man and woman and in traditional arrangement the bride would leave her house and start living in the groom’s house. From this context the girl’s feeling would be different from the boy. The boy would be responsible for earning the money and that’s something the bride would not feel anxious about.

Events of national/global significance:

Q. What sort of national events make headlines in your country?
A. Any big political movement, a success or failure by our national sport team, a natural disaster, a new law, any brutal crime, national festivals or misconduct by any renowned politician would usually make headlines in our newspapers.

Any big success by our scientists, engineers, researchers would also make headlines. Sometimes news editors pick some interesting and comical events to presents at the headlines of their newspapers as well.

Q. Does the media in your country pay more attention to global or national events?
A. We have more than 100 daily newspapers and more than 20 TV channels that mainly focus on our nationals events. But that does not mean that they ignore the important global events to be reported. In fact, they make a good balance of national and international news and events. Some programs and sections of newspapers are dedicated for national events while others are for international news and events. I would say that would be a 60, 40 rations in terms of national and international news and events in our media.

What do you most enjoy about it?A.What I enjoy most about the festive is that I could see people spend some times with their big families once in a year. They would pray and dine in together, and it feels great to see that. People are usually busy at their colleges or office and during the Eid they get a long vacation and meet the people they care. I also like the way small kids celebrate this special dat. They seem to be so happy and contended and all of them wear new dresses and that gives me immense pleasures.
Do you think festivals are important for a country? Why?A.Yes I do believe that festivals are important, because they could represent the identity of a county. Do you think the cinema has increased or decreased in popularity in recent years?A.I believe that the popularity of cinema has increased in the past few years. It can be seen from the number of Movie theaters that have been build in many big cities. It means that the demand of cinema has increased and more business people are investing on the building the cinema halls. Apart from that, more television channels are showing movies daily and the numbers of movie viewers are increasing day by day. The globalization and easy access to foreign films made it possible for people to watch movies that were produced and released on the other side of the planet.
In your opinion, will this trend continue into the future?A.Yes I do believe that it will grow more in the future. It is because that we are living in the modern world where we have more opportunity to view the variety genres of movies from differentThe working hours have become longer and the works are more stressful these days. This means that people need more entertainment to loosen their tense, and one of them is by going to the cinema. Movies are becoming more popular among the teenagers and because of the variety of movies people would go to watch movies more.

Making a film or TV drama of real/ fictional events
What are the advantages and disadvantages of making films of real-life events?A.The advantages of making film based on a real life event are that we could learn many things from such films. For example, when we make a film based on a true story of World War 1 or 2, we can learn about the cruelties of war, therefore we should avoid any kind of wars and support the world peace. The real event movies are more important in terms of underlining story, lesson, historical figures and facts. This type of film reveals the past among us and creates lasting impression on the viewers.

However, among the drawbacks of such films, we can say that it is not easy to produce such movies that would be based on true facts and entertaining at the same time. Producers often need to put extra emphasize on choosing casts, costumes and locations to make such movies. Such films might be biased sometimes and would spark a flame of criticisms. Then there is a chance that it won’t be able to attract all types of movie viewers and that the box office hits of such movies are often uncertain.

How important do you think it is for a film-maker to remain true to the original story?A.Well I think it depend on how the director wants to convey the message of the film. If his purpose is to show history, then I believe that it should stick to the original story. Meanwhile, if the aim of the films is for popularity or entertainment, then the director could develop the story.

Sometimes many books are converted to films and in such cases the film makers often change the dialogues and story of the original one. If the story is a fictitious one, I think the film makers should change a bit to make the movie more attractive. However, if the story is based on a prominent historical event or person, then they should remain as much authentic and true as possible to the original event or character.

Censorship and the freedom of the film-maker/TV producer

Should films and television be censored or should we be free to choose what we see?A.In my opinion, I think films and TV programmes should be censored, since they might contain some in appropriate scenes which could be embarrassing for the whole family. The amount of violence, blood-scene, drug abuse and slangs used on TV programmes and movies should also be censored as it might not be appropriate for people of all

Many films show adults or violence scenes these days, and they should be censored, since it could have negative effects on people, especially on the children’s imagination.

How do you think censorship laws will change in the next 20 years?A.Well, even though I support censorship, but I think it will be loosen in the future because people would be able to access films from many sources including internet these days. For example, children will be able to download films in their tablet PCs and watch films that they like. Therefore it is important for us to monitor our children’s gadget these days, to ensure that they watch appropriate films.

The trends of movie censorship reveal the fact that movies are not censored as strictly as the used to be in the past. The freedom of creative arts will also be a dominating factor for the loosely censorship of movies.

Yeah sure. My father is a doctor and he has been practicing medicine for more than 15 years. He is a devoted doctor and possesses a great and exemplary personality. People think that he has a very controlled personality but we know that he is very kind. I am proud to have such a great father. He is my idle in my life.

My mother is an angel and she is the most kindhearted woman I have ever seen in my life. She is a teacher in a school and she teaches literature. She is my best friend and I adore her very much.

My brother is 3 years senior to me and he is working in a telecommunication company as a System Analyst. He is around 28 years old and a very good friend and mentor to me.

My younger sister is only 12 years old and she is busy with her home works, study and computer. She is very sweet and helps my mother often to finish her household chores. I love her very much and she talks a lot to me. In our house, I am her best friend and I often help her completing her home works.

Q. How much time do you manage to spend with members of your family?
I live with my family and I spent most of my time at home with my family members. When I am out of home for my classes, or go to hang out with friends are the times I stay away from my family. Apart from that, I mostly spend time with them.

I have a very close relationship with my younger sister and my brother. We often go out together to watch movies or to do shopping. We sometimes play computer games together. On an average I spend 5-7 hours with my family members in a typical day.

Q. What sorts of things do you like to do together?
I like to discuss my plans with my father. I often take advice on important things from him. He discusses his experience, tells me history and often he teaches me morality and importance of being honest in life. He recommends me books and then we discuss about these books in our free time.

I do everything with my brother John. We hang out together, watch movies, read books, sometimes we fight, we often complaints to our parents about what I or he should not have done, we swim, catch fish, play football and many other countless things. Though he is very friendly, he often scold me whenever he things I did something wrong. He even acts like a mentor sometimes. Nowadays, he got busy in his office and that’s why we spend our time together on his days off.

I play computer games and chess with my sister and she often seeks my advice regarding things she can’t decide alone. We watch cartoons and documentary on History Channel together.

I love to talk to my mother and she is very fond of feeding us. She often shares her experience at school with us and we often watch TV serials and sports together. She loves to hear some classic music and I have become a fan of her favourite singers. So I often listen to music with her. There are many more activities that actually I do with my family members and those are the frequent ones.

Q. Did/ Do you get on well with your family? Why?
Yes, obviously I go well with my family. They are the most precious things I have in my life. They care for me a lot, they help me on my difficult times and my whole existence is surrounded with them. Whoever I am and whoever I become in future would be because of my family members’ love, care and affections.

I have a strong bonding and friendly relationship with my family. They share their thought and everyday experience with me. They always try to support me no matter what and all those mutual understanding makes us a small, happy family.

Developments in education...

Q.How has education changed in your country in the last 10 years?
A. I live in a developing country where the education sector went through numerous changes including the government’s more fund allocation in education, more women enrollment in higher studies, changes in academic syllabus etc.

During the last 10 years the most significant change that has happened in education sector in my country is the people’s mentality regarding the necessity of education. Only 20-30 years back many parents showed little interest in sending their kids to school. But that has radically changed in my country and nowadays almost every parent sends their children to school. This is a giant leap in my opinion in terms of the advancement of our education. Government allocated a share portion of its budget to ensure the schools infrastructure, study materials and salary of the teachers and that has been proven effective to build a solid ground to make an education nation. Only in the last 5 years our literacy rate has almost doubled and I give a major credit to the government for ensuring free education in primary level, special scholarship and monetary rewards to women students.

I am not 100% sure about the exact statistics but my best guess would be that more than 200-300 colleges and universities have been established in the last few years. We had only 4-5 engineering university back in 2000 but we have more than 30 such educational institutions now. More importance has been given to vocational education and thus a large number of underprivileged populations have come under the vocational education system.

In a nutshell, that was a massive change and I have witnessed some of those changes in my own eyes including how public exams’ quality have been improved, how the schools are emphasizing on English and Mathematics as academic subjects and so on and on.

Q.What changes do you foresee in the next 50 years?
A. If you ask me about the type of changes that might occur in education sector in my country in next 50 years, I would need to rely on my own past experience and predictions mostly. My best guess is that, the education would be more practical than theoretical in future. Women’s participation and performance in education would excel to a great extent. More women would be in research and higher education than their male counterpart.

The education would be expensive and private education institutes would be more demanding than the public and state owned ones. More foreign students would come to study here and the number of higher education institutes would increase by many-fold than the current number.

The digitalization and computer based education system would replace many traditional education systems and the online education would be a very popular form during that time.

Curriculum and subject offered in the college and education level would see a dramatic increase and technology would be the most important and demanding subject in this era.

Not sure if I will be alive or not to see the changes but I hope many positive changes within the next 50 years in my country including 100% literacy rate, more engineering and research based education system, some of our universities are raking in the world’s best university list and we are renowned as a country of a very excellent place for education.

A national education system...

Q.How do the expectations of today’s school leavers compare with those of the previous generation?
A. Well, the schools leavers nowadays are expected to study further and get involved in a part-time job to gain practical experience. The job market is pretty competitive compared to the previous time. Getting a good job requires talent, some practical experience, good grades in school and many other criteria. The competitions in public service or Government jobs are even higher. In the past decades there were very few school graduates in my country and hence securing a job both in public and private sector was not that tough.

The requirement is education is higher than the past. Twelve class degree is not enough to get a decent job. Recruiters are looking for candidates with prior job experiences and at least Bachelor degree. Thus the school leavers nowadays have no other option but to continue their studies. Getting a part-time job besides the study is a dream for many.

I heard from my grandfather that there were only few bachelor degree holders in his whole village while there must be more than 100 bachelor degree holders in a single community these days.

Those who leave school without completing the course have no other option but to either look after their family business or manage a job where physical labour is the only skill s/he has.

The population in my country has almost doubled in the last decade and that is pretty obvious that the completion the school leavers nowadays face is tremendous. Among the school leavers, many decide their major in college or university while other prefers vocational education. This facility was very narrow in my grandfather’s generation as I know. So I would say there is a whole lot of difference between current and past generations in terms of their opportunity, action and plan after leaving school.

Q.What role do you think extracurricular activities play in education?
A. Extracurricular activities sharpen the minds of students and enhance their creativity. Activities that require physical movements keep their body fit and thus the importance of extracurricular activities are immense. It is often experienced that kids who have interest in sports and games outperform the others in many fields. Extracurricular activities like singing, debating, painting can be very handy in terms of career enhancement. Students who have extracurricular activities possess better leadership and social activities. Finally from my experience I can say that such students have better knowledge about the world than students who are solely focused on academic lessons.

Different styles/ methods of teaching and learning...

Q.What method of learning works best for you?I prefer to work in pair for the complex topics and subjects. The group discussion in particular works best for me. When I study in a group I can discuss my views and learn opinions of others. Thus the discussion is always helpful and I can better perform in exam and remember the details for a long.
Q.How beneficial do you think it is to group students according to their level of ability?It’s always beneficial for students to make a group for study and discussion. If the group comprises students of similar caliber and talent levels, they are proven to be more helpful. Similar abilities of students in a group can be advantageous from mainly two points of views. They are more frank to participate in discussion and they have a good understanding among themselves. Secondly, they understand each other better and can advise in an effective way.

If a group is formed with different levels of students, there is a chance that a really talented student would get bored with the silly discussions by the others while a dull student among really talented group mates would not dare to opine whenever s/he likes.

A. Most of my friends are my own age. But yes, I have few friends who are senior to me and I can remember having 2-3 friends who are younger than I am. Basically most of my friends are from my college and that’s why naturally they are contemporary to me age. I have few friends from my locality and they became my friends mostly because we played together and shared common interest. Somehow in my locality young people prefer playmates of their ages. This is one of the main reasons they belong to my age group.

Q.Do you usually see your friends during the week or at weekends? Why?That depends and I see my college friends 7 days a week as we have classes together. I see them at weekend as well since we plan our holidays together very often. The friends who are already doing jobs mostly meet me on their weekends.
Q.The last time you saw your friends, what did you do together?Recently I went to watch a movie in a nearby cine complex with my friends. The Cineplex was showing a recent Hollywood movie and we planned to watch it together. On that day we also had our lunch together in a fast food chain shop and we also talked about the recent European Football league final game. Apart from that, we planned to attend a seminar that is likely to be arranged by our college and we agreed to do so on that day.
Q.In what ways are your friends important to you?My friends are very significant to me in many ways. Firstly they share many common interests that I have and that’s why I enjoy a lot talking to them and spending time with them. I never feel bored or get out of topics while I am with them and having a conversation or simply chitchatting. They are indeed very good friends of mine as they have often raised their helping hands in my crisis time.

My friends often plan activities that I find very exciting. They share their class notes and study materials with me and that’s very helpful for my studies. In fact friends are the persons with whom we can share everything and my friends listen to my thoughts very attentively. Looking after historic places......

Q.How do people in your country feel about protecting historic buildings?Most of the people in my country would advocate protecting any significant historic building. The historic buildings in my country are the icons of our heritage and we feel very proud to have them. It is not unlikely for people to protest against any planning or activities that might negatively affect our tradition and historic significance including those building.

I can recall an event from my college days when our teacher asked us to leave the classroom and take part in a rally that would march towards the local administrative complex to protest a decision taken by the local authority to diminish an old building to establish a hospital there. This old building was more than 1000 years old and it was once a part of the early ‘independence movement’ in our country against the invaders of foreign power. The protest took a great shape and people stayed there until the local authority assured that they will talk to the higher authority about it. The protest continued to grow and eventually after few months it won its victory when an alternative landscape was chosen to build the hospital. In fact these types of events in my country are not rare and that shows our feelings about the historic buildings.

Q.Do you think an area can benefit from having an interesting historic place locally? In what way?An interesting historic place encourages national and international tourists to travel to this area and this in term of tourism and economic development is very important. Local people get many benefits from a renowned tourist spot including employment opportunity, better exposure of their culture and custom to the world and finally they get many development works in their area since the government invests to promote the area.

Apart from that, having a historic place is an area is a matter of pride and people of such area can easily describe their home town or locality to the people of other parts of the country.
Q.What do you think will happen to historic places or buildings in the future? Why?I think the prominent and popular historic places and buildings which are famous among national and international tourists would survive and the government would try to preserve such places both because of its historic and economic significances. Besides, many other historic places which are the part of the national pride would also continue to exist as they are known throughout the country and government would take care of such places.

However, there are many historic buildings and places that are less famous and have very few visitors to visit them. Such buildings and places would face catastrophic destiny in a distant future. As the population of our country is increasing, the necessity would appear to diminish such buildings and to establish new multi-complex building. I guess such less important historic buildings and places would cease to exist after a century when the generation of that time would give less priority to their past heritage than their present necessity.

The teaching of history at school.....

Q. How were you taught history when you were at school?
I mostly learned about our national any many international historical events from our academic books, journals and TV programs. Teachers used to teach us the history books we had in our syllabus. They first emphasized on the history that were part of our class lessons and some of the teachers were really good as they explained the history in details. This covered mostly the national history. Sometimes the school arranged trips to national historical places as part of our lessons and the local tour guides told us a lot about the historical significance of such places.

We also learned from the story our teachers told us about numerous historical events especially about our freedom fight and Second World War. Sometimes the teachers inspired us to read history books and gave us assignment on a particular historical event and we had to complete our assignment as part of our academic exams. This was an excellent way to learn more about the history.

Q.Are there other ways people can learn about history, apart from at school? How?Definitely there are many other ways people can learn about history and that varies from reading books till travelling to historically important places.

First books offer us an excellent opportunity to learn about the world history. If someone is interested in learning the History, he has countless options to read famous and resourceful historical books. Apart from that, many television channels, like History Channel, National Geography Channel, Discovery Channel etc. offer excellent documentaries on history that can be very helpful for learning about world history. Libraries and museums could be other two important resources for people to learn about history. When people travel to different places, they can also learn about the historical significant of such places.

Reading history journals can be another good way of learning about the history. In fact, there are many different ways of learning about history than to be taught history in the classroom by teachers and an inquisitive person has many options to learn about that.

Q.Do you think history will still be a school subject in the future? Why?I most certainly believe that history would always be a part of school syllabus in the near and far future. The fundamental of history and its importance are learned from the school and that has a lasting impact on students. The inquisitiveness about history is formed among students when the teachers explain some great historic events in the classroom. The significance of history can never be denied as it teaches us our past, our ancestors and the world our grandparents used to live. Those lessons create our impression and concept about the world we live in.

We can’t build a great future without knowing our past and the school plays an important role in forming our curiosity in History. That’s why I believe that history will always be a major subject in school in the future.

A. Please call me Rahul. That’s my nick name.
Q. Tell me a bit about your family.
A. Well, I live in a joint family and there are almost 20 family members in this family. My grandpa, grandma, my parents, sisters, my uncles and their children are living in a joint family and that makes it a large family. My grandpa was a teacher and he is now around 70 years old. My father owns a small business and two of my uncle work there. My mother is a house wife and she takes care of me, my sisters and cousins. I have two sisters who are younger than me are in school. My father mostly takes care of the financial part of our family and he is the main earning member for our family. The house we live in quite big and it has more than 15 rooms in total.

That’s the summary of my family members. If there is anything particular you would like to know about my family, I would be happy to answer.

Q. What do your brothers and sisters do?
A. I have not got any brother of my own. I have two sisters and both of them are students. The older one, Radhika, reads in class ten while the younger one, Dina, reads in class seven. Besides study sometimes they help my mother on her housework and often help my cousins to prepare their home work. My sisters are very close to me and I like them so much. They are both very adorable.

Q. So, where are you from?

Q. What are the advantages and disadvantages of living here?
A. The place where I am currently living is a busy and residential area.

Among advantages I would say:

$1· It is a secured area as there are guards and police cars often roam in the streets. There are very few incidences to bother about.

$1· People are nice and amiable.

$1· Internet, cyber café, library and other facilities are available.

$1· Transportation facility is another advantage of this area. You do not need to wait for a long in the queue to get a public car.

$1· Amusement park, gardens, play grounds, shopping complex and other community facilities are nearby.

$1· Finally, there is no industry or commercial building there to pollute the air or sound.

Overall, I enjoy living there and compared to my previous living place, this is many times better.

Now among the disadvantages, I would mention that:

$1· The rent of the houses and apartments are comparatively higher and it is rising every year.

$1· The entrance gate of my area closes at 11:00 pm and that’s why I have to worry about returning home before 11:00 pm even after I have important tasks outside.

$1· The roads are busy during the school and office time.

$1· The last problem I would like to mention is the scarcity of doctors in this area. There is no hospital or medical center here so people have to go to the city center to avail this facility if required.

Q. I'm new here. Could you recommend a good restaurant?
A. That would depend on your taste of foods and budget. If you want to enjoy the natural views and taste the local foods, I would recommend you to go to (Mark Polo Restaurant). It is near by- would not take more than 20 minutes in a car.

Now if you want to taste other menus like Chinese, Italian, Indian, Thai, or European foods, your best deal would be the Dela Mono restaurant. They are bit expensive but their foods are delicious.

Finally if you want to enjoy you foods and have some refreshment like music, you should better go to WestInn and as far as I know it is quite expensive. To taste cheap fast foods you can visit the small restaurants nearby the New Market area. In fact I often go there and I enjoy their foods.

Q. Why do you like it?
A. I like quick foods and they are delicious. They offer ready foods at a low budget and that’s why I like it very much. Apart from that, New Market area is only 10 minutes distance from my university and having foods from those restaurants is convenient for me.

Q. What types of foods does it serve?
A. It serves only fast foods and quick meals including: burger, sandwich, pizza, fried chicken, friend rice with vegetables, all type of soft drinks and lassi. If you want to have lunch or dinner, you can order the set menu that includes: fried rice, vegetable, chicken, curry and other local items. Lassi and pizza are my two favourite foods of this restaurants and I often have these two items.
Q. What do you suggest I order?
A. I would suggest you to order a small California Pizza, one glass of Lassi and a mixed vegetable item. I am quite fond of this menu and enjoy eating it a lot. I am quite sure if you are not a pizza hater, you would also like it.
Q. Is it expensive?
A. Not at all. The whole menu would cost you only few dollars. If you compare the price of this restaurant to other restaurants, you would find it quite cheap in fact.
Q. How do I get there?
A. The new market area is a well-known place so you don’t have to worry much. From here you can take a public bus to reach the new market area. After reaching there you need to take turn to the north and you will see the large banner ads of this restaurants. If you take your private car, you need to reach the City fountain first and then you should turn left. After 5 minutes you will see a large auditorium and then you should turn to your right. Go straight for couple of more minutes and you are bound to notice the New Market. In case you are not sure about the route at any moment, you should ask any passerby about the location and anyone would be able to tell you the direction.
Q. After you have taken the lELTS, what are you planning to study?
A. I have finished my graduation in Computer Science and I have planned to finish my post-graduation in the same major. After getting my IELTS I would get myself admitted in any renowned university of the United Kingdom.
Q. Why are you interested in this?
A. I have a passion in computer programming and web development. Before deciding to take my undergraduate program in Computer Science, I talk with my teachers, parents and some relatives and they all suggested me to take part in this study. Since I have already completed my B.Sc. degree in Computer Science, I think it would be wise to continue my post-graduation courses in the same subject. Apart from that, the career prospect in Information and Communication sector and more specifically in software engineering is very high in my country. So I am interested in it from my passion, past educational background and because of the career prospect.
Q. Why do you want to study overseas?
A. I always wanted to study in an oversea university as it would ensure a better educational environment and quality education compared to the universities of my country. Apart from that, the opportunity to learn about the diverse cultures and people in a foreign university is something I don’t want to miss. Finally, a foreign degree, specially a degree from a reputed USA or UK university is helpful for better career prospect in our country. Considering all of the above mentioned reasons, I have decided to continue my study in an overseas university.

Q. How do you think studying overseas will be different to studying in your own country?
A. Studying in a foreign country is far different than studying in home country. First of all a student would have to leave his family, relatives, friends and stay in a different country to continue his/ her study in a foreign university. In home country s/he has the option to either attend classes from home or to stay at the university residence halls. In the second case s/he can meet family and relatives frequently and can make new friends very quickly. While studying in a foreign university students often suffer from home sickness and have to get enrolled in part time jobs to support his/ her expenses. While studying overseas universities students can learn about different custom, culture and tradition. Overseas universities are often better in quality than home universities and thus overseas universities offer quality education and this has a better prospect in the future career. Among other differences, the language, communication and exam systems might be different. Finally, overseas university offers latest and up to date curriculum while home universities, especially in less developed countries, might lack the proper study environment and proper syllabus.
Q. So what problems do you think you will have studying abroad?
A. I will miss my family members and I think for the first few weeks this would be terrible. All my life I lived with my family members and being in a foreign country would mean that, I can contact them over phone and have video calls, but can’t spend time with them in person.

The language barrier would be another problem. My English is better than average but still understanding and communicating with people of a different country who have a different accent is sometimes an unavoidable problem. Hopefully this won’t last for a long as I am a quick learner and I will try my best to learn the manner, custom and accent of this country very quickly.

Another problem that might arrive is loneliness. This is going to be a new country and I won’t have any friends and relatives. So the first few days would be lonely I guess. Travelling and not knowing the route and bus number would be another problem. The different kinds of foods in this country might be a problem as I am habituated to eat common types of foods available in my country. It might happen that I won’t find foods of my preference near my living place.

Finally finding a senior student, classmate or a teacher who would spend some time to explain some of the lessons that I might find difficult would be another problem I guess. In my country I always had resources and helping hands for my studies. I guess that would not be available initially in a new country where I would go for study.

I think these are the main issues I will face in first few weeks after I arrive at a different country to study.

Q. Do you think you will have many difficulties adapting to a new culture?
A. I guess it would not be much difficult for me to adapt to a new culture as I am already exposed to diverse customs and cultures in my home country. But of course, it is bit tough to adapt a new culture very, especially when the culture and tradition are quite different from my home country. But I have the confidence that I won’t face many difficulties there, specially related to the new culture, as I already did my research on common customs and traditions of this new country. So nothing would be whole new and shocking for me, I hope.
Q. Do you think that there will be any major changes in your field of study over the next few years?
A. Yes, the subject Computer Science by its nature changes over time. Since this is a pure technology based subject unlike other subjects like History, Mathematics, Arts etc. changes are very obvious. Programming languages and computer hardware are ever changing from the very beginning and many changed would occur in my field of study.

The courses change very frequently and many new algorithms are introduced to make the computing and software development more efficient. For instance, the data security, search mechanism, encryptions are very core subjects of Computer Science and they are changing very fast. It is not unlikely that new computing concept would emerge and that would be included in my field of study.

Q. How do you think an overseas degree will improve your professional skills?
A. I am planning to have an overseas degree mainly because of the finest quality and facilities this university can offer in my area of study. The overseas degree would actually ensure a better study environment and learning opportunity for me. Thus I would be able to learn better and have better skills to pursue a better career.

In my country a foreign degree is given a priority in case of job interview. Many local and international organizations even mention that a foreign degree from a reputed university would be a plus for the candidate. So I am sure having a foreign degree would open more opportunity for me in my professional life.

The foreign universities, especially universities of first world countries, are renowned for their professionalism, study environment and facilities to learn better skills. I am sure I would be able to take advantages of these facilities and would be able to learn more. The top notch universities of a first world country are often renowned for their research and I will put every effort to get involved in such research facilities to enhance my skills.

Q.What do you intend to do once you have finished your studies?A. I will get admitted in my Masters degree in few months and after I finish my studies, I would get back to my country. Once I get back to my country, I will start applying for a suitable job. In fact the job would be the place where I would be able to learn even more and use the knowledge I have learned in the past few years and will learn in next two years.

So in a nutshell, starting a job related to my study to enhance my skill would be the first thing I will do after I finish my graduation. Apart from that, I have a plan to work on a personal eCommerce project that I have been planning for years. The potential of eCommerce in my home country is immense and I would try to tap in this sector to establish a large eCommerce business.

These are the plans I have now for my immediate future but time often drives us to new tracks and different motivations. So if something bigger and better comes across my pathway, I will plan accordingly then.

Q. What do you see yourself doing professionally in 10 years' time? And how do you see your personal life changing?
A. Umm, predicting what I will be doing after 10 years is bit tricky! But if everything goes according to my plan and the Almighty drives me to the right track, I will own my own Ecommerce business after 10 years. I will be able to quit my day job at that time and would be able to fully concentrate on my own business. Ecommerce would not be the only thing where I would be working then. At that time I will own some of the prominent and large software nationally and internationally. I have a plan to establish a night school in my hometown and hopefully in ten years that would be renowned one and a role model for the people of my locality.

After 10 years I will probably be a married person with 1-2 kids of my own. That would be a big change I guess. There would be many responsibilities and new ways of life. I will devote more on doing humanitarian things than concentrating more on personal gains. Probably my choices of dresses, foods, music, movies and books would change and I would become more matured. Finally I will have fewer friends than I have now but they would be very close. My relationship with my co-workers and employees would be more prominent than my relationship with my university or college friends. I think those are very significant changed that are most likely to take place in my personal life after 10 years or so.

What are some of the nicest things about where you live?A. The place where I live in is a clam area and is very neat and clean. You will find it naturally beautiful and the lakes, gardens, fountain, river, hill and the songs of birds will take your heart away. Whenever my friends from other cities come to visit my area, they become awestricken! Our area is indeed a beautiful place to live in. The people are very nice and friendly and you would be very pleased with their charming behaviours if you visit there. The area is free of pollution as it not an industrial area and the fresh air would give a soothing feeling. The traffic on the road is good most of the time and you won't have to worry about the public transportation as they are available around the clock. This area is famous for many historical sites and monuments like ......... and many tourists come to visit here every day. The tour guides are very nice and are maintained by Government. There are many restaurants there and you can pick one of your delicious menus from there and I am sure you will never forget the taste! People in our area lead simple yet friendly lives and they make friends easily. The crime rate is pretty low and as a small town we know other members of our area.
I am sure if you visit our area once, you will simply love it.
Are there any places of special interest I could visit in your home area?A. The Gomez River and Roar Hills are two most beautiful places in our area. Thousands of tourists each month come to visit our area and these two places are main attractions for the tourists.

Could you describe some of them for me?A. The Gomez River is a long river that passes through our town. The water is crystal clear and you can see the fishes, corals and other objects inside it. The water is surprisingly warm and when you will look at it, you will be surprised to see all the fishes there. It is like a large aquarium. The reflection of the sky gives it a heavenly look and many people go there for picnic and fishing there. In the evening children and parents play in the fields beside the river and you can find some newly constructed motels and restaurants there. Swimming in this river is a popular activity among local people and tourists in the summer season.

The Roar hill is another beautiful site in our area and it got its names from the roaring echo sound it creates. There are several hills there and they are over 300- 500 feet tall. The vista, illusionary sound of birds, the natural beauty and fountains give it a painted picture like looks. In the evening when the sun starts hiding behind the hills, people look at this out-of the-world scenery simply in amazement.

What would be the best way for me to get there?A.If you have private car with you, you can drive along the roads and reach there. From the city center, both of the destinations would be around 1 and half hour’s journey. Alternatively, you can take a public bus or hire a small car and reach there. The rent of the public transportation is fixed and you need not to pay any extra charge.

If you enroll with the tour service provider, they will manage the plan, route and based on your preference, you can either share a zip or can take a private car for rent. The later one is comparatively expensive.

What sort of places could I stay at?A. You can stay at a tourist motel near the hills or can rent a hotel room in the city center. If you are visiting your family members, then villa near the hill road would be better alternatives for you. Almost every tourist motel provides meals facility.
Should I go at any special time of year?A.Most of the tourists come to our area during the summer season and I would recommend you to visit during summer as well. There are lots of activities you can do during this period and you will find the beauty of our city at that time.

Q. Tell me, what do you think are the greatest problems facing your country at present?
A. Economic development issue, political instability, unemployment and healthcare are the major issues most of the people in my country face. In my opinion these are the most burning issues and the greatest problems we have in our country.

Q. And what has been done so far to solve these problems?
A.The government has taken many initiatives for the economic progress of our country. According to the statistics, we are indeed progressing. But I am not convinced with the reported statistics. I want to see the result, I want to feel it. The political instability seems like consuming most of our good will and energy. While major political parties should have worked together to help improve our economic conditions, sometimes their actions give me real doubt whether they are the type of leaders we need for our country!

On the positive sides, government has emphasized on ICT sector, has made the export process easier for business people, established many training institutes to enhance the skill of the rural people and those are all hopeful signs. Someday definitely we will see the progress. Education, skill, foreign investment, job security etc. are also important areas where the government has invested a lot of money. The aim of this investment is to create a skilled and educated generation who would lead the economy and the country.

The healthcare section is still an expensive area for the mass people and the government’s initiatives for establishment of new hospitals, enrolling more doctors and nurses are in reality very little compared to the actual need.

Q. How successful would you say these measures have been?
A.These measures are successful to some extent but if I present it in figures, it would only few percentages than the actual progress we expect. For instance: more than three thousands hospitals are required throughout the country whereas only 45 hospitals have been established in the last one year.
Q. Do you think things are likely to get better or worse in the future?
A.We hope that the problem we have in our country would be resolved in next few years. The government and other organizations are working hard to address these issues and we are noticing some progress. So we can definitely be positive and wait for the glorious days when we won’t have those issues. This was an optimistic idea and I possess this positive idea about my country. But the greatest obstacle is the hunger for power and our political parties often create haphazard situation for the power. This is the single reason that can degrade the situation in the future.
Q. Is what you are going to study likely to be of any use to solve these problems?
A.I am going to finish my graduation majoring Computer Science and I am very positive that it would directly or indirectly help eradicate unemployment, economic progress issues to some extent that I have talked about. After finishing my education, I would establish a small software company and hopefully one day it would grow to be a large company where thousands of employees would work. The ICT sector also helps earning foreign remittance for a country and I would also contribute to enhance the foreign remittance for my country.

My father owns a small business and two of my uncle work there. My mother is a house wife and she takes care of me, my sisters and cousins. I have two sisters who are younger than me are in school. My father mostly takes care of the financial part of our family and he is the main earning member for our family. The house we live in quite big and it has more than 15 rooms in total.

Q. What are the advantages and disadvantages of living here?
A. The place where I am currently living is a busy and residential area.

Among advantages I would say:

$1· It is a secured area as there are guards and police cars often roam in the streets. There are very few incidences to bother about.

$1· People are nice and amiable.

$1· Internet, cyber café, library and other facilities are available.

$1· Transportation facility is another advantage of this area. You do not need to wait for a long in the queue to get a public car.

$1· Amusement park, gardens, play grounds, shopping complex and other community facilities are nearby.

$1· Finally, there is no industry or commercial building there to pollute the air or sound.

Overall, I enjoy living there and compared to my previous living place, this is many times better.

Now among the disadvantages, I would mention that:

$1· The rent of the houses and apartments are comparatively higher and it is rising every year.

$1· The entrance gate of my area closes at 11:00 pm and that’s why I have to worry about returning home before 11:00 pm even after I have important tasks outside.

$1· The roads are busy during the school and office time.

Q. I'm new here. Could you recommend a good restaurant?
A. That would depend on your taste of foods and budget. If you want to enjoy the natural views and taste the local foods, I would recommend you to go to (Mark Polo Restaurant). It is near by- would not take more than 20 minutes in a car.

Now if you want to taste other menus like Chinese, Italian, Indian, Thai, or European foods, your best deal would be the Dela Mono restaurant. They are bit expensive but their foods are delicious.

Q. What types of foods does it serve?
A. It serves only fast foods and quick meals including: burger, sandwich, pizza, fried chicken, friend rice with vegetables, all type of soft drinks and lassi. If you want to have lunch or dinner, you can order the set menu that includes: fried rice, vegetable, chicken, curry and other local items. Lassi and pizza are my two favourite foods of this restaurants and I often have these two items.
Q. What do you suggest I order?
A. I would suggest you to order a small California Pizza, one glass of Lassi and a mixed vegetable item. I am quite fond of this menu and enjoy eating it a lot. I am quite sure if you are not a pizza hater, you would also like it.
Q. Is it expensive?
A. Not at all. The whole menu would cost you only few dollars. If you compare the price of this restaurant to other restaurants, you would find it quite cheap in fact.
Q. How do I get there?
A. The new market area is a well-known place so you don’t have to worry much. From here you can take a public bus to reach the new market area. After reaching there you need to take turn to the north and you will see the large banner ads of this restaurants. If you take your private car, you need to reach the City fountain first and then you should turn left. After 5 minutes you will see a large auditorium and then you should turn to your right. Go straight for couple of more minutes and you are bound to notice the New Market. In case you are not sure about the route at any moment, you should ask any passerby about the location and anyone would be able to tell you the direction.
Q. After you have taken the lELTS, what are you planning to study?
A. I have finished my graduation in Computer Science and I have planned to finish my post-graduation in the same major. After getting my IELTS I would get myself admitted in any renowned university of the United Kingdom.
Q. Why are you interested in this?
A. I have a passion in computer programming and web development. Before deciding to take my undergraduate program in Computer Science, I talk with my teachers, parents and some relatives and they all suggested me to take part in this study. Since I have already completed my B.Sc. degree in Computer Science, I think it would be wise to continue my post-graduation courses in the same subject. Apart from that, the career prospect in Information and Communication sector and more specifically in software engineering is very high in my country. So I am interested in it from my passion, past educational background and because of the career prospect.
Q. Why do you want to study overseas?
A. I always wanted to study in an oversea university as it would ensure a better educational environment and quality education compared to the universities of my country. Apart from that, the opportunity to learn about the diverse cultures and people in a foreign university is something I don’t want to miss. Finally, a foreign degree, specially a degree from a reputed USA or UK university is helpful for better career prospect in our country. Considering all of the above mentioned reasons, I have decided to continue my study in an overseas university.

Q. How do you think studying overseas will be different to studying in your own country?
A. Studying in a foreign country is far different than studying in home country. First of all a student would have to leave his family, relatives, friends and stay in a different country to continue his/ her study in a foreign university. In home country s/he has the option to either attend classes from home or to stay at the university residence halls. In the second case s/he can meet family and relatives frequently and can make new friends very quickly. While studying in a foreign university students often suffer from home sickness and have to get enrolled in part time jobs to support his/ her expenses. While studying overseas universities students can learn about different custom, culture and tradition. Overseas universities are often better in quality than home universities and thus overseas universities offer quality education and this has a better prospect in the future career. Among other differences, the language, communication and exam systems might be different. Finally, overseas university offers latest and up to date curriculum while home universities, especially in less developed countries, might lack the proper study environment and proper syllabus.
Q. So what problems do you think you will have studying abroad?
A. I will miss my family members and I think for the first few weeks this would be terrible. All my life I lived with my family members and being in a foreign country would mean that, I can contact them over phone and have video calls, but can’t spend time with them in person.

I think these are the main issues I will face in first few weeks after I arrive at a different country to study.

Q. Do you think you will have many difficulties adapting to a new culture?
A. I guess it would not be much difficult for me to adapt to a new culture as I am already exposed to diverse customs and cultures in my home country. But of course, it is bit tough to adapt a new culture very, especially when the culture and tradition are quite different from my home country. But I have the confidence that I won’t face many difficulties there, specially related to the new culture, as I already did my research on common customs and traditions of this new country. So nothing would be whole new and shocking for me, I hope.
Q. Do you think that there will be any major changes in your field of study over the next few years?
A. Yes, the subject Computer Science by its nature changes over time. Since this is a pure technology based subject unlike other subjects like History, Mathematics, Arts etc. changes are very obvious. Programming languages and computer hardware are ever changing from the very beginning and many changed would occur in my field of study.

Q. How do you think an overseas degree will improve your professional skills?
A. I am planning to have an overseas degree mainly because of the finest quality and facilities this university can offer in my area of study. The overseas degree would actually ensure a better study environment and learning opportunity for me. Thus I would be able to learn better and have better skills to pursue a better career.

Q.What do you intend to do once you have finished your studies?A. I will get admitted in my Masters degree in few months and after I finish my studies, I would get back to my country. Once I get back to my country, I will start applying for a suitable job. In fact the job would be the place where I would be able to learn even more and use the knowledge I have learned in the past few years and will learn in next two years.

Q. What do you see yourself doing professionally in 10 years' time? And how do you see your personal life changing?
A. Umm, predicting what I will be doing after 10 years is bit tricky! But if everything goes according to my plan and the Almighty drives me to the right track, I will own my own Ecommerce business after 10 years. I will be able to quit my day job at that time and would be able to fully concentrate on my own business. Ecommerce would not be the only thing where I would be working then. At that time I will own some of the prominent and large software nationally and internationally. I have a plan to establish a night school in my hometown and hopefully in ten years that would be renowned one and a role model for the people of my locality.
